Some graduation sessions are classic. Yet, others are completely one of a kind. This year, I photographed a WVU grad at Kendrick Family Ballpark, the home of Mountaineer baseball. They capture how fun and unique this session felt for my season: baseball graduation pictures. From the dugout to home plate, every shot told a clear story. Also, a grad’s college years revolved around the game. If you’re a baseball player, a team manager, or a committed Mountaineer fan, this session is for you.

Kendrick Family Ballpark: The Home of WVU Baseball
Kendrick Family Ballpark Highlights
If you’ve been in Morgantown for a while, you might still know Monongalia County Ballpark. In 2024, it was renamed Kendrick Family Ballpark at the Monongalia County Baseball Complex. The change honors WVU alumnus and Arizona Diamondbacks owner, Ken Kendrick.
Located near University Town Centre in Granville, just outside Morgantown, the ballpark opened in 2015. Additionally, it earned BaseballParks.com’s Ballpark of the Year that season. Moreover, fans applauded its design and welcoming atmosphere.
The venue also appears stylish and modern. What’s more, it offers a clean green field, a big scoreboard, and Morgantown mountain views that make a great photo backdrop.
Meet Madison: A Grad Who Lived and Breathed WVU Baseball
When Madison contacted me regarding her WVU graduation pictures, she came with a unique twist. She managed WVU Baseball during her time at West Virginia University, and she had dreamed of a graduation session at the ballpark since 2019. Therefore, I was thrilled by her idea, and access to Kendrick Family Ballpark made this session a highlight.
Baseball runs in Madison’s family, too. Plus, her dad is a WVU alum and a baseball fan, and Madison wore a Legacy stole to honor roots. Between the ballpark, the Legacy stole, and years of memories with the team, every part of this session told Madison’s story. Nevertheless, I enjoyed time with her, and it was an honor to help bring a long-held dream to life.

A Behind-the-Scenes Tour of the WVU Baseball Biomechanics and Performance Center
Before we stepped onto the field, Madison gave me a tour of the WVU Baseball Biomechanics and Performance Center. Additionally, the 8,200-square-foot indoor facility brings hitting, pitching, and biomechanics labs together under one roof. It’s part of WVU’s School of Sport Sciences, with over 30 students supporting the program yearly in performance and analytics.
Seeing the work, the technology, and the people behind the program gave me a whole new appreciation for everything that goes into a winning season, and it made photographing Madison’s celebration at the ballpark feel even more meaningful.
Baseball Graduation Picture Ideas
Whether you’re shooting at Kendrick Family Ballpark or your hometown field, these baseball graduation pictures reflect your love of game. As a result, they add a sporty feel to your gallery.
Home plate. Standing on home plate in your cap and gown is the perfect symbol of making it all the way home. It’s a must for any baseball grad.

The dugout. Sitting on the dugout bench, leaning on the railing, or stepping up out of the dugout makes for relaxed, candid shots that feel completely natural for anyone who spent their college years there.

The bat over your shoulders. Resting a bat across your shoulders with your cap and gown on is a fun, confident pose that instantly says baseball.

The glove. What better way to showcase the “glove” for baseball than a glove?

The cap toss on the mound. Toss your graduation cap from the pitcher’s mound, or swap it for your team cap, for a celebratory shot with the whole field behind you.
The outfield. Using the outfield as a foreground. As a result, it gives your photos a big-game feel and makes a great wide shot.

The baseball cap. Bring your team’s baseball cap to really bring home the baseball vibes.

Baseball Graduation Props
One of my signature shots at every graduation session is a flat lay of the grad’s gown, cap, cords, and stoles arranged together in one frame. It screams “my whole college career” in a single photo, and it’s often a favorite for framing or sharing. Moreover, I enjoy small details, and the macro lens brings the tassel charm and cord embroidery into sharp focus.
For Madison’s session, the flat lay got a Mountaineer baseball upgrade. I had the honor of photographing the 2025 Big 12 championship ring, from the season WVU baseball won its first-ever outright Big 12 regular-season title. That ring was huge, and up close through my macro lens, every detail stood out. We scattered a few baseballs with the WVU logo around her cap, gown, cords, and stoles to give the flat lay that instant Mountaineer connection. Can You Take Graduation Photos at the WVU Baseball Field?
This is a special situation, and not everyone has access. Kendrick Family Ballpark is a secured facility with authorized access through gates and swipe cards, so a session like Madison’s only happens with permission from the right people or department. As a team manager, Madison had the connections to make it possible, and I appreciated the chance to photograph her somewhere so meaningful. If you have a connection to WVU baseball or another team and dream of a session at your facility, start by asking the program or athletic department for permission, and let me know. If it helps, I’d be glad to help plan it.
Because the ballpark is off campus and requires special planning, a session like this works best as part of my Graduate 4.0 package, which includes an entire evening dedicated to just you. My standard sessions are centered at Woodburn Circle, WVU’s most iconic spot on campus.

Graduation Photo Ideas for Every Mountaineer Athlete and Fan
You don’t have to play baseball to bring your love of Mountaineer sports into your baseball graduation pictures. Football fans can pose with a jersey near Milan Puskar Stadium, basketball fans can bring a ball to celebrate at the Hope Coliseum, and athletes in every sport can bring the gear that defined their college years. If your time at WVU was defined by a team, a sport, or a stadium, let’s find a way to incorporate it. For more ideas, check out my guide to WVU graduation photo ideas and poses.
