October weddings in West Virginia just hit different.
Additionally, crisp air, warm light, and that cozy end-of-season magic set the scene.
From the moment I arrived, I could feel it.
This was going to be a good one.
It was not just beautiful, but joyful.

Bridal Details That Meant Everything
Some wedding details go far beyond pretty, they tell a story.
Kylene’s mom had passed away unexpectedly last year. Importantly, her bridesmaids surprised her by gathering her mom’s jewelry and creating a one-of-a-kind piece that Kylene attached to her bouquet. In that moment, I instantly knew this was something special. Ultimately, I made sure I documented the heck out of it.
It was quiet. Emotional. Powerful. A beautiful way to carry her mom with her down the aisle.
Along with their spunky selves, this couple keeps things real. They accidentally put the wrong date on their invitations. No stress, no spiral. They laughed it off and said if anyone would do something like that, it would absolutely be them.
Honestly? Iconic.
That mix of deep meaning and lighthearted joy perfectly sums up who Kylene and John are.
A First Look Full of Heart
Their First Look was one of those quiet, meaningful moments that hits you right in the feels.
Kylene surprised John with a watch — such a thoughtful, personal gift — and they chose their own First Look location together. Looking back this wasn’t somewhere I would’ve naturally picked because of the harsher sunlight. Nonetheless, it really did work.
The light wrapped around them in this cinematic way, and the photos came out beautifully.
Sometimes couples just know — and this was one of those times.
It felt intimate, emotional, and perfectly them.
“We’re Here to Party”… and They Meant It
Funny enough, after the wedding was over, I went back and checked out their wedding website (which I hadn’t seen beforehand). They had an FAQ section for guests, and one question immediately stood out to me:
What is the attire?
Their answer?
Guests were encouraged to wear whatever made them feel most confident and comfortable. Even better, they added something along the lines of:
“We’ll be all dressed up, but honestly, we’re here to party.“
AHHHHHH. These are my people.
That one sentence told me everything I needed to know.
And let me tell you, they lived up to it.
You couldn’t wipe the smile off Kylene’s face if you tried. Their guests had an incredible time, too. No one was belligerent, over the top, no rude energy. Just genuine joy, laughter, and a packed dance floor full of people celebrating hard in the best way.

It was intimate, emotional, and full of happy tears.

The Pine Room reception was the perfect blend of cozy, elevated, and ready-to-party…and one of my favorite parts?
Kylene gave her florist full creative control.
No micromanaging or rigid expectations. Just full trust in the process and WOW did it pay off.
Undoubtedly, she was completely blown away when she walked into the room. Not only did the room feel intentional, but also elevated the entire space without feeling overdone. It’s the kind of vibe that makes guests pause for a second before finding their seats.
From Garden Vows to Pine Room Dancing
After the ceremony, everyone transitioned to the Pine Room for the reception and that’s where the party really started.
From heartfelt toasts to a dance floor that stayed packed, the reception at Oglebay felt warm, joyful, and full of genuine connection. This celebration is where people hugged a little longer, laughed a little louder, and truly lived in the moment.
This is exactly the energy I love documenting.
The best part, The Pine Room at Oglebay Resort gave them the perfect mix of cozy + celebratory. Above all, once the music started, it stayed lively all night long.
Why This Oglebay Wedding Meant So Much to Me
Some weddings stick with you for different reasons. Not just because they’re gorgeous or the details were amazing, but because of how they feel. This wedding was literally all the feels for me.
I loved Kylene’s joy and I admired John’s steadiness. I absolutely LOVED how much fun their guests had celebrating with them. And for the record, not one drink was spilled on that dance floor. They all just had a really amazing time and those are the moments I crave and I live for. I am SO glad our paths crossed, it was truly an honor getting to document their day and celebrate alongside of them and their people.
