No other venue location combines charm and vintage like a summer wedding at The George Washington Hotel in Washington, P.A.! Alyssa and William finally tied the knot! Even though their day of celebration was hot and humid, nothing could damper the love these two have for each other.
A Historic Hotel Like No Other
Amazing history is abundant at The George Washington Hotel. Located near Pittsburgh, this unique location was built in 1922 and fittingly opened the following year on George Washington’s birthday (hence the name!). The hotel was recently added to the official registrar of Historic Hotels of America, which is a part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It has won numerous awards and accolades for events and weddings.
The hotel located at 60 South Main Street originally had a movie theater when it was built, but has since been torn down. The list of celebrities staying here over the last one hundred years is impressive. They have hosted people such as Lou Gehrig, Henry Ford, John F. Kennedy, The Beatles, and Marilyn Monroe. Decorating the walls of the Pioneer Room are six murals by early American artist Malcolm Purcell. These are the largest remaining murals from this artist. By combining old-world architecture and updated furnishings for all the rooms and suites, The George Washington Hotel is the perfect place to get married!
A Wedding That Felt Like a Reunion
I love shooting weddings in Pittsburgh and the surrounding cities, so I was thrilled to be Alyssa and William’s photographer! However, this wedding was special for me for another reason. Alyssa was one of my classmates growing up, as we started school together in Kindergarten. We graduated from Brooke High School in 2004, and I had not seen her since. Everyone had gone their separate ways after graduating high school. It was so refreshing to see so many familiar faces during their wedding.
The nostalgia washed over me and it felt awesome to be surrounded by friends who all came from the same place and had the same experiences as teenagers. I really didn’t want to leave once my contracted time was complete! I wanted to stay and catch up with everyone. However, I have a class reunion coming up soon, so I’m excited to see my classmates again. Twenty years have really flown by!
Bright and Airy Wedding Ceremony
Alyssa and William met in a bar in Avella, PA in 2010. After dating for some time, he finally proposed! Alyssa’s sister Mallory also got married at this venue in 2014. William and Alyssa liked the hotel so much that they also decided on the venue for their ceremony and reception. They included pops of gold, pink, vintage mauve, and burgundy for their wedding colors. Alyssa and William selected The Washington Room for their ceremony and reception, and it’s no surprise as to why. With floor-to-ceiling windows, this room brings in an amazing amount of natural light, perfect for any wedding celebration. I had my baby shower here in 2019 and I loved the bright and pretty aesthetics.
While the room was flipped over for the reception, the guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the main lobby while I took the couple for portraits at the hotel and on the streets surrounding the venue. Everyone had a great time, joining in for the dancing and festivities during the reception. What an amazing day for Alyssa and William’s summer wedding at The George Washington Hotel! I can’t wait to shoot another wedding here soon! If you’re planning on getting married in the Pittsburgh area, reach out to me so we can discuss the details.
